We believe that nurturing empathy and accountability is essential for personal growth and community harmony. Our restorative practices not only address disputes but also cultivate a deeper sense of belonging within our school community, enabling all students to thrive. For more insights into our approach, please refer to the resources provided by the IIRP.
Our Approach
At Parkwood Academy, we work together to nurture a safe, happy, and inclusive environment where every pupil can thrive. We set high expectations for all our children, while recognising and supporting individual needs. Our behaviour and relationships policy applies throughout the school day and whenever pupils represent our school, both on and off site.
Our Expectations
We believe that positive relationships and clear routines help our pupils to become responsible, independent learners. At Parkwood Academy, we:
- Encourage a positive attitude to learning in a supportive and nurturing environment
- Promote high expectations and enable children to become independent and responsible
- Foster respect for each other, our community, and our environment
- Value clear, consistent routines to ensure everyone’s health, safety, and wellbeing
All staff model the behaviours and attitudes we expect from our pupils and support children to make the right choices. It is everyone’s responsibility to remind and support pupils when expectations are not met, and to recognise and praise positive behaviour.
Our Values
We celebrate and encourage the following values in everything we do:
- Curiosity
- Empowerment
- Compassion
- Belonging
- British Values
Restorative Approach
Our restorative approach is based on evidence based research from the International Institute of Restorative Practices (IIRP). When there has been a behaviour infraction, students are encouraged to engage in a formal conversation or restorative circle that focuses on the following questions:
- What happened?
- What were you thinking/feeling at the time?
- What have you thought about since?
- Who has been affected by what you have done?
- In what way have you been affected?
- What do you think needs to happen to make things right?

Working Together
We believe that building strong relationships between pupils, staff, and families is key to a successful school community. By working together, we can ensure Parkwood Academy remains a place where every child feels valued, respected, and able to achieve their best.
